Calian has won a contract to supply NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) with chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN)-specific training for all Alliance military operations. CBRN operations are important for preparing defensive measures for NATO to address the potential use of chemical, biological or nuclear/radiological weapons against friendly forces or civilian populations.

The Calian team will deliver specialist training at SHAPE’s HQ in the village of Casteau, near Mons, Belgium. SHAPE is the military headquarters of NATO Allied Command Operations (ACO) that commands all NATO operations worldwide.

Reporting to General Christopher G. Cavoli, Commander, U.S. European Command, and Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), Calian’s CBRN experts will provide support across the CBRN exercise program.

Following a similar training contract last year with NATO, the Calian European team will support SHAPE with the design, development and execution of three holistic CBRN exercise programs. These will include program integration with other current NATO training. The desired end-state is an enhanced exercise program to train and evaluate staff across the range of mission essential tasks.

The training solutions will rely on Calian’s proven formula for client success—integrating subject matter experts with deep military experience and industry-leading simulation technologies. Calian uses a blend of technology, modelling and simulation to design, develop and deliver cost-effective training experiences to meet any objective.

Calian will provide comprehensive support to SHAPE as part of this work, building on our record of delivery for other NATO contracts like the NATO Joint Warfare Centre’s 360 Collaborative Production Environment Development and Delivery Support Contract (CPEDDSC).

Calian has consistently worked alongside NATO at the JWC, ACT and across ACO to find solutions that offer the best value to NATO, adapting to changes to ensure the right services are provided in the most effective and efficient ways possible. As “mission partners”, the Calian team has a unique combination of relevant experience and knowledge of NATO’s current and emerging concepts, doctrine and exercise development to support SHAPE.

Calian continues to be a global military training leader that supports training development and delivery for the Canadian Army, Navy and Air Force; the NATO Joint Warfare Centre in Stavanger, Norway; for the Joint Force Training Centre exercises at Bydgoszcz, Poland; and for Allied Joint Forces Command in Naples, Italy.
